Torsion springs

Torsion springs are located either above the opening of the garage door, or occasionally on older homes at the rear of the garage. When these springs are correctly installed, they balance the door. This means that it should take the same amount of pressure to open the garage door, as it does to close it. A properly balanced garage door is easy to lift and has an average lifespan of 7-9 years. Torsion springs typically need to be re-balanced within the first couple of years. If the spring was installed during colder weather, it may need to be rebalanced sooner than if it was installed in warmer weather
